Here at Glacier Media, our internal agency ecosystem is made up of 150+ folks.

It’s time for another edition of Team GMD Q&A. It’s kind of like Vogue’s 73 Questions. Instead, it’s in blog form and there are less than 10 questions – because you’re busy and we respect your time.

This week on Meet the Team GMD, we are featuring the up-and-coming marketing maestro, Alex Glinnum. Alex recently graduated from Business at SFU with a focus on Marketing and Data Analytics, and we have been lucky enough to have him join us over the summer as our Marketing Operations Intern. Read on to learn about Alex!

Tell us a little bit about your role at GMD. What do you do on a daily basis:

As a Marketing Operations Intern, I have had the pleasure of working on digital out-of-home (DOOH) campaigns, where I set up new campaigns for clients and ensure existing campaigns are running smoothly. I also assist with other campaigns by offering my skills in copywriting, data manipulation, and media planning.

Personal kryptonite:

My wallet’s kryptonite: Feeling an uncontrollable urge to purchase a record whenever I walk past a record store.

Follow-up question: favourite Vancouver record store?

Hidden talent:

I’m a ridiculously fast eater, I can eat a footlong sandwich in under 2 minutes if I really need to (which is never but I do it sometimes anyway).

The best part of your job?

Working with a friendly and supportive team that’s always happy to share their knowledge with little ol’ me.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

Either going on a nice hike or going to the beach – or even better: hiking to a beach.

What is one thing on the very top of your bucket list?

Sitting courtside at a Toronto Raptors playoff game.

What is your go-to karaoke song?

The Joker – Steve Miller Band.

What is your astrological sign? Do you care?

It’s Aries, but I feel more like a sea otter than a ram – too bad there’s no sign for that.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Aja by Steely Dan because it’s full of fantastic and catchy tunes, sounds amazing on vinyl, and I could never get sick of it.

If you could have the power of teleportation right now, where would you go?

I would go somewhere on the coast of Italy, and enjoy some pizza and maybe an Aperol spritz on the beach.

If you could get rid of any current trend, what would it be and why?

I’d get rid of those futuristic, reflective wraparound “pit viper” style sunglasses. Not because I think they’re terribly ugly, but because I can’t pull them off and I’m kind of jealous of people who can.

What have been some key learnings from your time at Glacier Media Digital so far?

1. Keep an open mind: the folks I work with are all super knowledgeable about their field, whether it is design, copywriting, or ad operations. Keeping an open mind helps me learn from each individual and take on new tasks that I thought wouldn’t be up my alley, but are actually very interesting and have taught me a lot!

2. Measure twice, cut once: Rushing through things can cause a headache that is rarely worth the quick turnaround time. I’ve learned to ask lots of questions, and listen carefully to my colleagues’ responses to make sure things get done correctly the first time!
