Remember those days when Vancouver broke temperature records? Well, team GMD braved the heat to keep our shorelines looking spick and span as part of Shoreline Cleanup’s initiative: #CleanupParty.

Although this isn’t the first year that GMD participated in the initiative, it felt different than the others. This year, it was more than just an event to help our surrounding communities by picking up trash—it was a chance for some of our team members to see each other face-to-face, for the first time in over a year.

In March 2020, our team transitioned to remote work, which means that for the past 15 months, like so many other businesses, communications among our coworkers have been mostly limited to Slack and Zoom. So understandably, having real conversations and catching up in person was refreshing—even though the temperatures were above 35 degrees!

On the first day, six of our team members met at the office and walked as a group to the False Creek shoreline. They worked their way towards Science World, collecting three large bags of garbage along the way, and collecting just as many thanks from pedestrians who were out enjoying the sunshine.

The following day, four team members cleaned the shoreline along Charleson Park. We’re happy to report that only one bag of garbage was collected—clearly, our community is doing a great job at keeping garbage where it belongs, in the trash!

As restrictions ease, GMD is excited to get back to these events—whether it’s meeting at the local brewery for a #TGIF bevvy, community initiatives like this, or a simple event to enjoy each others company outside of working hours.
