Here at Glacier Media, our internal agency ecosystem is made up of 150+ folks.

It’s time for another edition of Team GMD Q&A. It’s kind of like Vogue’s 73 Questions. Instead, it’s in blog form and there are less than 10 questions—because you’re busy and we respect your time.

This week on team GMD we are introducing Maria Plata, our new Social Media Marketer.

Originally from Colombia, where she majored in Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia, Maria has a background in TV production, copywriting and editing. She moved to Vancouver in 2018 to study business communications, receiving her certificate in Communication Design Essentials from BCIT and Emily Carr. Read on to learn Maria’s greatest weakness, her best advice, and her take on the whole Elon Musk Twitter debacle…

In a short paragraph, tell us a little bit about your role at GMD. What do you do on a daily basis:

As a Social Media Marketer at GMD I support the social media team with content ideation, creation, and copywriting. I enjoy the challenge of having to flip the switch between different clients in a very wide variety of industries and backgrounds.

Describe yourself in three words (it’s hard, I know):

Resourceful, intuitive, observant.

Personal kryptonite:

Carbs! Any kind, pasta, bread, pastries…

Hidden talent:

Audio/video editing: Since working in radio I became savvy with audio and video editing software and I really enjoy the process.

Hobbies?

Trying new restaurants and shops in the city, and tasting foods from around the world. Growing up in Colombia I didn’t get to try international cuisine so Vancouver has given me the opportunity to do this. I also enjoy reading, mainly domestic thrillers and the occasional rom-com.

A cause/causes you are passionate about:

I am trying to be more conscious about my spending habits by supporting local businesses, which in my opinion, is always better that buying from multinational companies that perpetrate inequality.

What are you listening to?

Podcasts! My Favorite Murder, Sounds Like a Cult, AITA Pod

What is your opinion on the Elon Musk Twitter acquisition?

I think it’s very unfortunate to see Twitter’s value decline as it served as a platform to build community and connect with like minded people. I don’t really think there’s a replacement for Twitter as the experience is different in many ways from that of other social platforms.

Favourite place to travel and why?

I love going to the Sunshine Coast in B.C., it’s the perfect place to unwind or go for a walk and enjoy a nice long weekend. I specially love Gibsons as the scenery there is stunning and puts me in a good mood.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

To never stop learning! Being curious and stepping out of my comfort zone to try something new is always a rewarding experience for me.

If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day and why?

My younger self!  I would surely love to relive my childhood be it just for 24 hours.
