Another week, another Team GMD Q&A. It’s kind of like Vogue’s 73 Questions. Instead, it’s in blog form and there are less than 10 questions – because you’re busy and we respect your time.
This week on Team GMD, we are featuring Adriano Fernandes, a User Interface/Experience Designer on our digital team. Adriano creates digital ads (programmatic and community display), landing pages, websites and logos that translate the client’s brand voice. He has a minimalistic approach that puts the audience first to create engaging and meaningful designs. Read on to learn more about Adriano.
Expertise: Branding and Web Design.
Hidden talent: Indoor soccer. That came from my Brazilian roots.
Personal kryptonite: Dark chocolate ice cream.
Morning rituals: I like to take a nice shower and a cup of bulletproof coffee.
Favourite musician: Radiohead
Hobbies: Watching design and coding tutorials. I’m such a nerd!
Two truths one lie:
- I’ve started my career as a copywriter.
- I’d love to, but I’ve never been to Europe.
- I love surfing in summer.
What keeps you motivated: new challenges and recognition.
Office habit: I like to fill up my coffee tumbler twice a day, early morning and after lunch.
Causes you are passionate about: The environment. Even though many people are becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of consumerism, I believe that discussion should be more present in every organization modus operandi.
What/who inspires you and why: Everything around can inspire me. But classical music turns my design mode on, for sure.
Best advertising campaign you’ve seen: Volkswagen: think small.
Favourite artist/ graphic designer: Well, that is tough, because inspiration is also cyclical. But to mention one, Paul Rand.
Whose work has inspired you the most (any creative figure): Chris Do. His YouTube channel “The Futur” has been playing an essential role in how I approach design.
What is your design style: Minimalist. If an element is not meaningful, it shouldn’t exist.
How do you stay on tasks when fulfilling numerous work requests: Take a deep breath, a good cup of coffee, do it step-by-step.
Favourite project you’ve worked on: At GMD, I’d say the GuidedBy branding and website design. It’s a work in progress yet, but after some meetings and feedback sessions, I can say we’ve built a strong look and feel that really represents the product mission.
Side-hustle: No big plans at this moment. But I have an idea for a digital art exhibition in the future.
One thing school taught you and one thing it didn’t:
- Did: Do not be afraid of exposing your ideas.
- Didn’t: There will always be that day when you run out of good ideas. The best you can do is go home, sleep and start a new one.
Favourite quote: “A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
